The Trouble With Photos....

Despite living in Cornwall, where people think the sun always shines, the weather can be particularly antisocial at times!

Today was no exception.  I have a beautiful, handcrafted cushion to photograph, and would really love to take it outside to perch gloriously amongst the lavender.  But it hasn't stopped drizzling all day.  Typical Cornish murk - dank and gloomy, blowy and grey.

So what to do?  I could photograph inside, but again an 18th Century cottage isn't flooded with natural light.  I have been in the bedrooms, the lounge and the dining room, and cannot get the vibrant colours to look, well, vibrant.

This coin purse looked glorious nestled amongst the emerging buds of lavender, and garnered so much interest that I am sure the sale was down to the photo...

So I guess the cushion will have to wait... surely the sun will come out soon?

Welcome to the world of Black Cat!

A big hello to everyone!  I have finally decided to start a blog on the upsides, downsides, and downright silly sides to running my own business.  I hope that it will prove a therapeutic process for me (!), and an entertaining one for you!

Black Cat Textiles was born of my love of crafting in the summer of 2012.  A friend was searching for some cushions, and had a very firm idea of what she wanted.  I offered to make her some, and she was delighted to accept!

Cue much squealing - bless her, she had no idea that I could a) sew and b) work from a rather vague but specific brief.  From this point, she recommended me to several other people, who I made bespoke curtains and cushions for.

I love to create beautiful things for people, and use a lot of applique and free machine embroidery.  Over the space of a few months, I started to develop my own style, rather than being constricted by the requirements of others!  Thus, Black Cat Textiles was born.
